Prompt 1 — When You’re Stuck Mid-Project
“I’m working on a [creative project type] and I’m stuck at [describe the specific sticking point]. Here’s what I’ve done so far: [brief description]. Please give me 3–4 different directions I could take this, ranging from safe to unexpected. Don’t choose for me — just expand my options. I’ll take it from there.”
Use for: any creative project that has stalled — writing, quilting, painting, gardening, music, photography
Prompt 2 — When You’re Starting a New Creative Skill
“I want to learn [creative skill] as a complete beginner. Teach me the way a kind, patient friend would — not a teacher grading a paper. Tell me: (1) The one thing that will make my first attempt go better, (2) A simple first project to try today with what I have, (3) One common beginner mistake to avoid. Then ask me how the first attempt goes.”
Use for: any creative skill you’ve been wanting to try — watercolor, calligraphy, poetry, photography, bread baking, embroidery, songwriting
Prompt 3 — When You Want Honest Creative Feedback
“I’d like feedback on this creative work: [paste or describe your work]. Before you tell me what isn’t working, please tell me: (1) What is working well — specifically, (2) The strongest element of this piece. Then, if you have one suggestion for improvement, please phrase it as a question or a possibility rather than a correction. I want feedback that builds me up before it builds me better.”
Use for: any creative work you want honest feedback on — writing, recipes, garden design, photos, craft projects
Prompt 4 — When You’re Planning a New Creative Project
“I’m about to start a new [type of project]. Before I begin, I want to get clear on my vision. Please ask me 4–5 questions — one at a time — about: (1) The mood or emotion I want it to carry, (2) Who I’m making it for, (3) What I want someone to feel when they experience it, (4) What would make me feel this was a success, (5) What I would make if no one would ever see it. Don’t give me instructions yet — just help me see what I’m actually trying to create.”
Use for: before starting any creative project — especially one with personal meaning
Prompt 5 — When Creativity Feels Far Away
“I want to do something creative today but I don’t know what. Here are things I’ve enjoyed making or doing in the past: [list 3–5 creative things]. Here’s what I have available right now — time: [how long], materials: [what you have], energy: [high / medium / low]. Suggest one small creative thing I could do in the next hour that doesn’t require anything I don’t already have.”
Use for: restless days, slow afternoons, retirement transitions, any time creative energy needs a gentle start
