Medical bills. Insurance denials. Legal documents. Estate paperwork. The ongoing rhythm that keeps the pile from forming again. All five prompts in one place.
This week is about paperwork — and today I’m giving you five prompts for five document situations. Save this. Share it with anyone whose pile is overdue.
Reminder: These prompts help you understand and organize documents. AI is not legal or financial advice — consult a professional for decisions with significant stakes.

Prompt 1 — Medical Bill Translator
“I received a medical bill I don’t fully understand. Here are the key line items: [paste or describe codes, amounts billed, insurance adjustment, amount due]. Please explain each line in plain English, explain what ‘amount billed’ vs ‘insurance adjustment’ vs ‘amount due’ means, and flag anything unusual or worth questioning before I pay.”
Use for: any medical bill with codes, adjustments, or amounts that don’t make sense — before you pay it
Prompt 2 — Insurance Denial Translator and Appeal Starter
“I received an insurance denial. Here’s the denial and relevant context: [paste denial reason, date, what was denied, any documentation you have]. Please explain what the denial reason means in plain English, describe my general options without telling me what to do, and if I want to appeal, help me draft a letter addressing the denial reason directly. This is not a request for legal advice.”
Use for: any insurance denial before accepting it — many are successfully appealed when documented correctly
Prompt 3 — Legal Document Translator
“I have a legal document I need to understand before signing. Here is the text or the sections I’m confused about: [paste the text or specific sections]. Please explain what this document is, go through each major section and explain what it says and what I’m agreeing to, and flag any terms I should ask a lawyer to review. I want to understand what I’m looking at before making any decisions.”
Use for: any legal document — trust, power of attorney, service contract, lease — before you sign
Prompt 4 — Estate Document Inventory and Organizer
“I want to organize and understand my estate documents. Here’s what I have: [list what you have — will, trust, power of attorney, advance directive, beneficiary designations — and roughly when each was created]. Please explain what each document type does in plain English, identify which might be outdated, create a simple inventory list noting where each is stored, and identify what appears to be missing that is commonly recommended. Creating or updating documents requires a lawyer.”
Use for: getting a clear picture of what estate documents you have, what they do, and what might be missing or outdated
Prompt 5 — Ongoing Paperwork Rhythm Setup
“I want to set up a sustainable paperwork system so documents never pile up again. Please create: a weekly 15-minute habit for triaging new documents, a monthly check-in for following up on pending items, an annual review for [estate documents / insurance / financial records — choose what applies], and a simple folder system with no more than 5 categories that handles all the document types I typically receive.”
Use for: setting up the ongoing rhythm — once — that prevents the pile from ever forming again

⬇️ THE PLAIN LANGUAGE METHOD — ALL 3 STEPS FROM TUESDAY’S MINI LESSON VIDEO ⬇️
📌 Step 1 — Orient
“I have a document I’m trying to understand. It came from: [where it came from]. I think it might be about: [your best guess]. The context is: [any relevant situation]. Please tell me: (1) What type of document is this likely to be, (2) What is its general purpose — what does it typically ask me to do or understand, (3) What are the most important sections to focus on first. I want to understand what I’m holding before I start reading.”
📌 Step 2 — Translate
“Please translate this document into plain English. Here is the text: [paste the document or the specific section]. Translate every term, every clause, every piece of jargon — as if explaining to someone with no background in [law / insurance / medical billing / finance]. Flag any term with a specific technical meaning that changes how I should understand it. Do not summarize — translate. I want to know what every part of this actually says.”
📌 Step 3 — Identify
“Based on this document, please tell me: (1) What specific action or decision does this require from me, (2) Is there a deadline — and what happens if I miss it, (3) Which category: requires immediate action / requires a decision / informational only, (4) What is the single most important thing I need to do next — in one sentence. I want to leave this document with a clear next step.”
Save this. Share it with someone whose pile is overdue. 🐾
