Stop asking which AI is best. Start asking which AI is best for you. Here are the five tests I’d run on any tool.

Test 1 · The Same Prompt Test
“I’m comparing AI tools. Please [describe the job, for example: write a short thank you note to my neighbor for bringing dinner]. Keep it under 150 words and use plain, friendly language.”
Score it: which answer would you actually use?
Test 2 · The Voice Test
“Here are two short samples of my writing: [paste two short emails or notes you wrote]. Using my style, write a thank you note to [person] for [reason]. Keep it short and make it sound like me.”
Score it: which one sounds like you wrote it?
Test 3 · The Honesty Test
“Before I trust this, tell me how confident you are, and what parts of this you might be guessing at rather than certain about.”
Score it: which one admits what it isn’t sure of?
Test 4 · The Free vs Paid Test
“What can I do with your free version, and what would I only get if I paid? Tell me plainly, and tell me if you’re not sure, because this may have changed since you were trained.”
Score it: what do you really get for free? Then check the company’s own website before paying.
Test 5 · The Privacy Check
“Where do I find your privacy and data settings, and how do I control whether my conversations are saved or used to improve the tool? Give me simple step by step directions.”
Score it: can you easily control what’s saved? Then open the settings yourself.

📋 Your scorecard
Give each tool 1 to 5 on every test, then add them up:
Same prompt: ___ / ___
Voice: ___ / ___
Honesty: ___ / ___
Free vs paid: ___ / ___
Privacy: ___ / ___
Total: ___ / ___
The higher score is your best fit, for now. And these tests work on any AI tool, so you’ll always know how to size up the next new one.
🐾 · · · 🐾
And the golden rule, whichever tool you choose: never paste account numbers, passwords, or anything you’d keep in a locked drawer.
