Ask Me First: The 3 Questions That Fix Bad ChatGPT Answers
Train your AI puppy to pause before it answers.
One of the biggest mistakes people make with AI is expecting good answers from unclear requests.
That is like tossing a ball into the dark and getting annoyed when your puppy brings back the wrong thing.
If you want stronger output, teach your AI puppy to ask first.
These are the three questions that matter most.
1. What is the outcome?
This tells AI what job it is actually doing.
Examples: A caption An email A script A blog post A summary A meal plan A product description
If the outcome is vague, the answer gets vague too.
2. Who is this for?
This tells AI how to shape the message.
Examples: Beginners Customers Women over 50 A manager A general audience A buyer Subscribers
When audience is missing, AI usually defaults to generic.
3. What format, tone, or limits should it follow?
This is where the response gets practical.
Examples: Keep it under 200 words Use a natural tone Make it beginner friendly Use short paragraphs Do not sound robotic Give me three options Use a table
Without these boundaries, AI tends to overfill.

Before answering, ask me these three things if they are not clear: the outcome I want, who it is for, and the format, tone, or limits I want you to follow. Then give me the clearest possible answer.
Real life example
Weak prompt: “Write me something about my new offer.”
Stronger prompt: “Help me write a short email about my new offer. It is for women over 50 who want beginner friendly AI help. Keep it warm, clear, and under 150 words. Before answering, ask up to three questions if needed.”
That is the difference between hoping and directing.
And the more you guide your AI puppy this way, the better it performs.
