Everyone asks me which AI they should use. So I ran a fair test. Same prompt, word for word, in ChatGPT and Claude, on the same day, using the free versions.

Job 1 · A thank you note.
Both were kind and usable. One sounded like a greeting card; the other sounded like me. In my test, that was Claude.
Job 2 · A weekend trip plan.
Both gave a solid outline. But unless search is switched on, neither is checking live prices or hours, so I always finish with:
“Now list everything in this plan I should double check myself before I rely on it, like opening hours, prices, reservations, and travel times.”
Job 3 · A confusing insurance letter, with my personal details removed first.
Both explained it beautifully.

So who won? It depends on the job. For writing that sounds like me, I reach for Claude. For images and checking the web, ChatGPT. For explaining things, either one.
The real winner is knowing which one to reach for. Try it yourself with this:
“I’m comparing AI tools. Please [describe the job, for example: write a short thank you note to my neighbor for bringing dinner]. Keep it under 150 words and use plain, friendly language.”
