I want to tell you about a specific Tuesday evening last month.
I sat down at my desk with the intention of finally dealing with the paperwork pile — the one that had been growing for about six months on the corner of my home office desk. Not dramatically large. Just consistently there. A stack that had become furniture.
The top document was a medical bill from a procedure I’d had in February. I’d received it three times, placed it in the pile three times, and told myself I’d deal with it when I had more energy to understand it. The bill contained codes I didn’t recognize, numbers that didn’t add up to anything I could track, and a line that said “patient responsibility” that was higher than I expected.

What I did differently that Tuesday
I pasted it into AI and asked it to explain every single line.
What came back was extraordinary — not because it was complicated, but because it was simple. In two minutes I understood what every code meant, what my insurance had covered, what it hadn’t, and why. And I found a duplicate charge I would never have caught reading the bill the normal way. It wasn’t a lot of money. But it was mine.
Then I went to the insurance denial letter that had been in the pile for four months. I’d received it, felt a wave of confusion and low-level dread, and placed it in the pile to deal with later. I pasted it into AI. It told me — in plain English — that the denial reason was “prior authorization not obtained,” that this type of denial is commonly appealed successfully when the medical necessity can be documented, and asked whether I wanted help drafting an appeal letter.
I did not know I could appeal. I did not know it was worth trying. The denial had felt final. It wasn’t.
A note on this week’s content: AI is a translation and organization tool — not a lawyer, financial advisor, or insurance expert. Everything this week is about understanding what you’re looking at so you can ask better questions of the professionals who can actually advise you. That translation is valuable. The professional relationship is still yours to manage.
🎬 Watch Sunday’s video: Three AI prompts for the three most common documents in the pile — medical bills, insurance denials, and legal documents.
⬇️ ALL 3 PROMPTS FROM SUNDAY’S HOW I LESSON VIDEO ⬇️
📌 Prompt 1 — Medical Bill Translator
“I received a medical bill and I don’t fully understand it. Here is the bill or key information from it: [paste or describe the line items, codes, amounts billed, insurance adjustment, amount you owe]. Please: (1) Explain each line item in plain English — what the code refers to and what the amounts mean, (2) Explain what ‘amount billed,’ ‘insurance adjustment,’ and ‘amount due’ mean in practical terms, (3) Flag anything unusual, duplicated, or worth questioning before I pay. I want to understand this bill before I pay or dispute it.”
📌 Prompt 2 — Insurance Denial Translator and Appeal Starter
“I received an insurance denial and want to understand it before deciding whether to accept or appeal. Here is the denial: [paste denial reason and relevant details]. Please: (1) Explain what the denial reason means in plain English, (2) Explain my general options — accept, internal appeal, or escalate — without telling me what I should do, (3) If I decide to appeal, help me draft a clear appeal letter based on [the reason my doctor said this was necessary / specific circumstances of my case]. This is not a request for legal advice.”
📌 Prompt 3 — Legal Document Translator
“I have a legal document I need to understand before signing. Here is the text or the sections I’m confused about: [paste the text or specific sections]. Please: (1) Explain what this document is and its overall purpose in plain English, (2) Go through each major section and explain what it says and what I’d be agreeing to, (3) Flag any terms or clauses I should ask a lawyer to review before signing. I want to understand what I’m looking at before making any decisions.”

What’s in your pile? Hit reply and tell me — even just the category. Medical? Insurance? Legal? Something from the government you haven’t opened? I’m reading every one, and I’ll be building the Wednesday scenarios this week from what you tell me. 🐾
