Reset the Pattern: How to Retrain Your AI Puppy
When AI keeps repeating the same weak habits, use a reset instead of more random prompts.
If ChatGPT gives you one weak answer, that is annoying.
If it keeps giving you the same kind of weak answer over and over, that is a pattern.
And patterns need a reset.
This is especially true when AI keeps sounding too generic, too long, too fluffy, too formal, or too disconnected from what you actually wanted.
That is when I stop piling on more instructions and use a simple reset method.
Step 1. Name what is not working
Be specific.
Examples: This sounds too generic. This is too long. This lost my voice. This drifted away from the goal.
Step 2. Restate the job
Tell the AI what it is actually supposed to be doing.
Example: “You are helping me write a clear beginner friendly Substack post for women over 50 who want practical AI help.”
Step 3. Restate the output rules
Tell it the tone, length, structure, and boundaries.
Example: “Use a natural voice. Keep it concise. Use short paragraphs. No robotic wording. No filler. End with one simple takeaway.”
Step 4. Add a small example if needed
Examples help anchor behavior.
Even one sentence in your voice can make a big difference.
Step 5. Start clean
Ask it to rewrite from the reset, not from the flawed draft.
This matters. If the draft is too messy, editing it line by line can keep the bad pattern alive.
Sometimes it is faster to reset the training and begin clean.
That is what we are doing in today’s lecture. We are not just fixing one answer. We are teaching your AI puppy better habits.
And better habits lead to better output.
