Saturday morning. Week 13 complete. This one had a different texture than the last four.
After four weeks of deeply personal territory — identity, memory, knowledge and legacy — this week returned to urgently practical. And there is something genuinely satisfying about a week where the tools produce specific, concrete, measurable results. $340 caught before it was paid. A cardiac device approved after a four-month denial. A contract clause negotiated before the lawyer reviewed it.
Those are not small things.

✅ What anchored the week
Sandra’s $340. Not because the amount is dramatic — it isn’t. But because of what it represents: a charge that would have been paid without question by anyone who paid medical bills without reading them first. Which is most people. The prompt didn’t do anything magical. It gave Sandra the vocabulary to read the bill in a way that made the error visible. That’s the whole job.
✅ The component I most wanted people to know about
The Appeal Builder. Raymond’s story is not unusual — it just sounds unusual because most people don’t know appeals are possible, let alone common. Insurance companies count on this. The denial letter is designed to feel final. It is not always final. I wanted this week’s content to be the reason someone pulls a denial out of their pile and reads it again with different eyes.
💭 What I’d build next time
A dedicated piece specifically for people managing paperwork on behalf of an aging parent — not their own pile, but someone else’s, often under pressure and with incomplete information. That situation has its own specific challenges and its own specific prompts. It’s coming.

🔭 Week 14 · August 10–16
Next week is one I’ve been thinking about carefully since we planned this series. It’s the week I reserved for a reason.
Week 14 is AI Safety and Digital Security.
Here’s the frame I want you to carry into this content: you are a sophisticated person. You have navigated complex situations, managed real money, made important decisions, and dealt with people trying to take advantage of you in various ways over the course of your life. You know how to read a room.
What is new is this: the operations targeting you now are more sophisticated than they have ever been — and they are using AI to become more sophisticated faster than most people realize. Deepfake phone calls that sound exactly like your grandchild. Emails that are indistinguishable from your bank. Scam texts that reference your actual recent purchases. This is not a reason to be afraid of AI. It is a reason to use it.
Sunday: How a scam almost got me — and how I built a verification system that protects me now
Tuesday: The Verify Before You Trust Method — three steps for anything that asks you to act quickly
Thursday: Your Personal Digital Security System — five components for protecting yourself in an AI-powered threat environment
This is not a scary week. It is an empowering one. The same AI that scammers are using is available to you. We are going to use it.
Thank you for Week 13. For the $340 caught. For the denials reconsidered. For the documents finally opened. 🐾
