Tuesday Mini Lesson: The Caregiver Breathing Room Method: 3 AI Steps for Finding Space Inside the Hardest Role
👉 Tuesday Mini Lesson Video
Most caregiver advice falls into one of two categories. Either it tells you to practice self-care, which sounds reasonable and is almost impossible when you’re the only person holding everything together. Or it tells you to ask for help, which assumes there is someone available to ask and that asking won’t make everything more complicated.
Today’s method is neither of those things. Three practical steps that work inside the life you actually have.

📌 Step 1 — Offload: Get It Out of Your Head
“I am a caregiver and I need to get everything out of my head about the current situation so it lives somewhere outside of me. Please interview me one question at a time about: the person I’m caring for and their current situation, all current medications and dosages, all upcoming appointments and what they’re for, the things that need to happen daily and who is currently doing them, the things that keep falling through the cracks, and anything I’m worried about that hasn’t happened yet but might. When we’re done, organize everything into a clear summary I can share with anyone who might need to step in.”
Use for: getting the mental load out of your head and into a form other people can use
📌 Step 2 — System: What Keeps Falling Through
“I am a caregiver and there are things that keep not getting done, not because I don’t want to do them but because I never have the energy left at the end of the day. Here’s what’s been falling through the cracks: [describe three to five things that keep not happening]. Please help me: figure out which of these actually needs to happen this week versus which can wait, identify which one would make the biggest difference to the overall situation if it got done, and give me the first concrete step for each one — not a plan, just the first step. Keep it simple enough that I could actually do it.”
Use for: turning the undone list into three manageable first steps
📌 Step 3 — Yours: One Thing This Week That Belongs to You
“I have been a caregiver for [amount of time] and I’ve noticed that I can’t easily answer the question of what I enjoy anymore — not because nothing appeals to me, but because I haven’t had space to think about it. Here’s who I was before caregiving took over: [describe your interests, what you used to do for yourself, what gave you energy]. And here’s what my current week actually looks like: [describe your real schedule and constraints]. Please suggest three small things I could do this week — each taking 20 minutes or less — that would feel genuinely mine. Not self-care in the spa sense. Something real.”
Use for: reconnecting with yourself — the hardest step for most caregivers to take seriously, and the most important
