Saturday morning. Week 17 complete. This week felt like exactly what the series needed after two heavy weeks.
Not because caregiver identity or paperwork and documents don’t matter — they matter enormously. But because Phase II is built to mirror real life, and real life doesn’t stay heavy forever. At some point it turns toward something being built. Something starting. That’s what this week was for.

✅ The story that stays with me
Thomas — woodworking classes for adults who want to make things for their grandchildren. Two years of waiting because he didn’t know how to find students. The first customer finder prompt asked him to describe the single most likely person who would pay for this. He described his neighbor. He called him that afternoon. His neighbor said yes and asked if his brother-in-law could join. Two students before a single advertisement. The first customer is almost always closer than we think.
✅ What surprised me about this week
How many people replied to Monday’s invitation with ideas they had never told anyone before. Not because the ideas were secret — because they’d never been asked. There is an enormous amount of expertise and ambition sitting quietly in people’s second chapters, waiting for someone to ask the question and take the answer seriously. I take it seriously. The ideas that came in this week deserve to exist.
💭 What I’d build next time
A dedicated piece on the pricing question — specifically for second-chapter entrepreneurs who consistently underprice their expertise. The pattern I see most often is people with 30 or 40 years of experience charging what a recent graduate would charge, because they’re new to running a business even if they’re not new to the work. That gap between expertise and pricing confidence needs its own lesson.

🔭 Week 18 · September 7–13 · Difficult Family Conversations
The final week of Phase II. And in some ways, the most universal topic of the entire series.
Week 18 is Difficult Family Conversations.
There are conversations that most of us in our second chapter know we need to have. Conversations about money and inheritance. About care preferences and what we want if we can’t speak for ourselves. About estrangements that have gone on too long. About things we should have said and never did. About what we want the people we love to know before we’re no longer here to tell them.
These conversations don’t happen for one of a few reasons: we don’t know how to start them, we’re afraid of the reaction, we keep waiting for the right moment, or we’ve convinced ourselves that not having the conversation is kinder than having it. AI can help with all of those things. Not by making the conversation easy — nothing can make it easy. But by helping you figure out what you actually want to say and giving you the words to start.
Sunday: How I Use AI to Prepare for the Conversations I’ve Been Putting Off
Tuesday: The Difficult Conversation Method — 3 AI Steps for Saying What Needs to Be Said
Thursday: Your Personal Family Conversation AI System — 5 Components for the Conversations That Matter Most
If there is a conversation you’ve been putting off, next week is for that conversation.
Thank you for Week 17. For the ideas that finally came out of someone’s head and into the world, the first customers who were already in the room, and the businesses that started before they were ready. 🐾
