I Tried to Force One AI to Do Everything. Here’s the Two-Platform System I Use Instead. →
For a while, I picked whichever AI tool happened to already be open on my screen, no matter what the task actually was. It felt easier in the moment. It cost me more time than I want to admit.
One complicated report for my day job made that obvious. I used the tool that was already open instead of switching, and the result was fine, just thinner than it should have been. I ended up redoing the whole thing in the tool I should have used from the start. It was embarrassingly better.

Here are the three actual rules that came out of that mistake:
“Given what this task actually needs, which kind of tool is built for that, not just whichever is already open?”
“Here’s what I got from another AI tool on this: [paste it]. Do you see anything missing, wrong, or worth doing differently?”
“Here are two versions of this from two different AI tools. Help me see the strengths of each one so I can decide what to keep.”

Sunday’s video walks through the whole moment. If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re supposed to pick just one AI tool, this one’s for you.

Tuesday I’m breaking these same three rules down one at a time.
