The component most people have never done
Component 3 โ the Personal Information Audit โ is the one I want to highlight because most people have no idea how much information about them is publicly available, or that they can do anything about it.
When a scammer calls you knowing your name, your bank, the last four digits of your account, and your approximate address โ they are not hacking your bank. They are using information assembled from data broker websites, public records, and social media profiles that is available to anyone who looks.
The audit doesnโt make you invisible. It significantly reduces what is easily findable. And the process of doing it โ searching for yourself on people-search sites, requesting removal, reviewing your social media privacy settings โ changes how you think about what you share publicly going forward. It is worth one weekend of attention.
๐ Start Here โ Personal Information Audit Checklist
โI want to audit my personal information exposure online. Please create a step-by-step one-weekend checklist that covers: (1) The five most significant people-search and data broker sites to check first โ and how to search for myself on each, (2) The removal request process for each of those five sites โ what to do, what to provide, and how long it typically takes, (3) The three social media privacy settings most commonly overlooked that reduce scam targeting, (4) A simple ongoing practice โ what to check quarterly to make sure my exposure doesnโt creep back up. Make this something I can actually complete over a Saturday and Sunday.โ
A word about Component 4 โ the Rapid Response Protocol
Helenโs story from Wednesday โ the call that hit the verification wall โ ended well. Not every story does. Component 4 exists for the stories that donโt end well, and for making sure that when something goes wrong, acting quickly is possible rather than paralyzed by shame.
Build your rapid response protocol before you need it. The thirty minutes after a scam incident are the most important thirty minutes for limiting the damage. Knowing exactly what to do in those thirty minutes before they arrive changes everything about what comes after.

๐ Component 1 โ Scam Detection Practice
โI want to do a scam detection review. Here are [communications / situations] I encountered this week that felt slightly off: [describe or paste each one]. For each: (1) Identify any scam or phishing indicators, (2) Tell me whether this matches how legitimate organizations in this category operate, (3) Rate it: clear / low / moderate / high concern, (4) Tell me what I should do โ ignore, verify, report, or block. Help me build my pattern recognition.โ
๐ Component 2 โ Safe AI Usage Guidelines
โI want personal guidelines for using AI tools safely. Please: (1) Tell me what categories of information should never go into a public AI tool and why, (2) Explain the difference between AI tools with strong privacy protections and those without โ and how to tell which is which, (3) Create a checklist I can use before sharing any sensitive information in an AI conversation, (4) Tell me what to do if Iโve already shared something I shouldnโt have, (5) Give me the three most important safe AI usage rules I can actually remember.โ
๐ Component 3 โ Personal Information Audit
โI want to understand what personal information about me is publicly accessible online. Please: (1) Tell me the most common places personal information is publicly accessible and what each typically contains, (2) Tell me how to search for my own information on people-search sites and what to look for, (3) Tell me the steps to request removal from the most significant data broker sites without paying a service, (4) Tell me what social media information is most commonly used in targeted scams and how to reduce that exposure, (5) Create a simple audit checklist I can work through over one weekend.โ
๐ Component 4 โ Rapid Response Protocol
โI want to build a pre-made rapid response protocol for security incidents. Please create a protocol for: (1) I clicked a phishing link and may have entered information, (2) I gave financial information to a possible scammer, (3) I sent money via wire transfer or gift card to a scammer, (4) My email or social media appears compromised. For each: first five actions in 30 minutes, who to contact in what order, what to say, and what to monitor in following weeks.โ
๐ Component 5 โ Teaching the People Around You
โIโve built a digital security system and want to help [describe who โ elderly parent / adult children / grandchildren / skeptical friend] understand the basics. Please: (1) Write a clear explanation of AI voice cloning and scam tactics in language that will make sense to this specific person without alarming them, (2) Create a two-minute conversation covering the three most important things they need to know, (3) Tell me how to explain the family verification system in a way theyโll remember and use, (4) Give me one simple scam scenario I can share so the threat feels real but manageable.โ
